Croatia trip in a week – Dubrovnik

Probably, the most popular city in Croatia is Dubrovnik if you have watched Game of Thrones. We spent 2 days in Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is known for its Old Town encircled with massive stone walls.

Seeing boats from Dubrovnik City Walls

We took 4 hours bus from Split at 8am. We arrived by 12am. We booked accommodation that was close to the bus terminal. Our place is on the second floor of restaurant Bistro 49. After having lunch, we checked in. The place was disappointing as the wall was so thin that you could hear people speaking outside. At night, it seemed our neighbor was locked but they insisted on getting in. They knew they did not have the key, but couldn’t keep their hands off the doorknobs for one hour. It ruined our first night.

Having a high fever and early travel made me so unfocused. I dropped my makeup pouch on the bus which I did not realize. After checking in, we took a 2-hour nap before exploring the city. We took Uber to the Old Town which was cheap, only 4 euros. We bought Dubrovnik’s 24-hour city pass but decided to use it the next day as the walls will be closed soon. We paid 35 euros for the city pass. After 6pm, we couldn’t enter anymore. So, we didn’t explore much as I was still not feeling well. We also just found out we booked the wrong ticket from Dubrovnik to Zagreb. Instead of buying the ticket for Sunday, we bought Flixbus for Monday. Luckily, there were still some tickets left and we could reschedule the tickets and only pay 25% extra. This was unnecessary spending if I was careful enough when booking the ticket.

On the second day, we started earlier. As we bought the city pass, we could use public transport. We had to drop our luggage first. They could keep our luggage till 10pm, which was good as our bus was at 9pm. The bus stop was so close to the entrance. We started going up around 10.30am. We started earlier as we believed the sun would not be easy on us. Also, not much shadow up there.

In the first 30 minutes, I was thrilled, taking many pictures and videos. It was very breathtaking seeing the city from the top. Seeing the sea. Seeing the house with the same color roof. Everything seems perfect. After some time, every corner looked the same. My goal was to go out as quickly as possible. I only could feel heat and dizzy. I also lost my glasses without knowing it. Probably because I switched my reading glasses and sunglasses often. We also explored all the corners of the Old Town, checking the shooting location there. We went to every free museum covered by city pass.

Uniform buildings

Finding restaurants there was not easy if you had a limited budget. We only bought some bread from Konzum. We planned to go to a Bosnian Michelin star for dinner so we tried to eat cheaply for lunch. Unfortunately, we could not get the table in the restaurant as it was fully booked. Our clumsiness did not know that they would be fully booked. We then just eat another burek from Holi Burek. But that was the best Burek we have ever had in Croatia.

After starving ourselves by eating burek we ended our dinner with some snacks form Konzum. We found a mosque there. We hoped to meet some Bosnian man who would pray too. But, praying there 3 times, never encountered any human being. I like this mosque as it is located in the center of the Old Town and we could use the toilet with a bidet for free. We also could take some rest.

Kings Landing

After getting dark and having nothing else to do, we decided to just get back to pick up our luggage. It was 2 hours before our bus came. We sat in the cafe next to the terminal. Our 10-hour journey began. I was really afraid that I would need the toilet. I was so lucky there was a toilet inside even though no water running.
